Sourcing Handicraft products from UNIVERSAL EXPORTS - India Import Guide
Before placing an order, verify that the materials comply with your market’s sustainability requirements and request any relevant certificates, such as FSC or similar, if needed. Ask the supplier to provide material safety data sheets for the specific items you intend to import, as these documents confirm the absence of harmful substances. Confirm the exact dimensions and weight of the sample pieces to ensure they match your design specifications.
Discuss logistics early by confirming the preferred Incoterm - FOB Surat or CIF Mumbai - and the associated responsibilities for freight, insurance and customs clearance. Although the listing does not state an exact lead time, request a production schedule that aligns with your delivery window. Typical payment terms for Indian exporters involve a 30 % advance TT followed by a balance against shipping documents; negotiate terms that suit your cash‑flow.
Arrange a pre‑shipment inspection through a recognised third‑party agency to verify material quality, dimensions and finish against the agreed standards. Request a detailed packing list, commercial invoice and certificate of origin to facilitate smooth customs processing. Maintaining clear communication with UNIVERSAL EXPORTS throughout the sourcing process will help identify any deviations early and ensure the final shipment meets your quality expectations.
