Marine Bilge Oily water separator (OWS) for ships is a special machine for the marine or shipping industry. They can be used to separate a mixture of oil and water into their respective components. These wastewater discharges must meet the requirements of the The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973 as modified by the Protocol of 1978. Any vessel of 400 gross tons and above but less than 10000 gross tons shall be equipped with oil filtering equipment approved by the competent authority. The oil content of the oil mixture discharged into the sea through the oil filtering equipment shall not exceed 15 ppm. Any ship of 10000 gross tons and above shall be equipped with the Bilge Oily water separator (OWS) approved by the competent authority. And a device which can give an alarm and automatically stop the discharge of the oil mixture when the oil content of the discharge exceeds 15 ppm shall be installed. There are many methods of oil-water separation, including physical separation, chemical separation and electrical separation.
